What is it about?
The game thrusts players into the nightmare of a parasitic infection within a small remote Arctic outpost. Gather resources, share small spaces, cope with raging infections, develop anxieties, drink booze to cope with anxieties and learn to trust others.
Parasite, with its traitor mechanics, looming infections, and personality quirks, creates an atmosphere of social anxiety and paranoia, pushing players to actively communicate and strategise their escape while exercising their freewill to misbehave.
Mechanics
During the game players share the small outpost with four locations which provide resources, events, and a timer that ticks down as the helicopter is preparing to Escape back to the civilization.
While gathering resources, players face tough choices between items and special actions, that force the players into life-and-death decisions or expose undesirable information about their fellow scientists.
Crisis and missions hinder players as they prepare their escape. Ignoring these problems will lead to an early grave. Players must find common ground and cooperate to escape alive and uninfected.
The infection cards are divided into Humans and Parasites, and contain hidden roles and motivations. The game contains multiple winning conditions and an ability to switch loyalties by getting infected.
While sharing same space, players spread their infections to other players. Getting infection from another player can be harmless common cold or a small parasite that will grow to destroy the world. Can you trust your fellow scientists, or are they the Parasite, or maybe you are already infected?
As players step into the shoes of the outpost’s characters, the looming threat of death is ever-present. Consequently, staying healthy and out of harm’s way becomes a formidable struggle, particularly without good communication between players.
The Parasite doesn’t just threaten humanity; it poses a direct danger to all. Leaving behind this loyal canine companion is absolutely not an option!
